The Casino Royale intro is clearly themed. Okay, water is a theme. Now weapons are everywhere. Oh the weapons are graves.
Rorschach women, guns, graves, and elk. I think because the singer is a no good hack whose one single is a rip off who he paid settlement with to avoid people noticing.
I remember the very first time I played MGS3 and this intro kicked in, it just floored me with its amazingness.
If they ever decide to go through with a Metal Gear Solid movie, I want them to do Snake Eater first just so I can listen to this song in the theater.
GoldenEye is definitely the absolute top Bond theme. The game that came along with it was pretty great too. The single version is paced better.
I mentioned this in another thread, but my favorite is probably "The World is Not Enough". Something big-band-and-over-the-top is what I expect in my bond my themes.
I just think they should have gone with someone else than Sam Smith. It was pretty much an early trend to use contemporary music in the closing credits of Phase One songs.
I remember my mind being blown when I was younger. No Bond film has been able to match it since or before IMO.
I still think Goldfinger has the best theme out of all the films. Beautiful music perfectly suited to the Connery Bond. I remember being really into Audioslave when I went to see Casino Royale.
My wife and I saw it and about 20 seconds into the title theme I turned to her just as she turned to me and we both said "Chris Cornell!
Followed by Live and Let Die as close 2nd place. When the bullet comes out of the gun it forms a club symbol in cards, then this club symbol transforms into iconic Mandelbrot fractal picture.
A Scanner Darkly fully rotoscoped feature film, excellent sci-fi flick. No need to claim fanboy status to say A View to a Kill is one of the best.
Probably my favourite of the You and I may be alone in this. I feel like the energy of this songs exactly matches what the new James Bond was doing.
Skyfall just felt like "Welp, same old Bond, same old song. Male M, Moneypenny, Q, and now Spectre. Goofy over the top villain. Male m, moneypenny, q, gadgets, Aston martin.
The modern bond gets killed on the train and the classic bond comes back to life. The villain was not your goofy over the top guy, it was more grounded in realism.
Definitely lacking the goofy, outrageous villain. Skyfall is very bland and forgettable. Aww yesss one of the best ones. This one is a much better bond opening even though its not a James Bond movie.
MGS3 from https: If anyone is interested I have compiled a four-part list of my favourite Bond themes on my blog. Usually see hot dancing silhouettes with these James Bond Openings.
Someone that you think that you can trust The duet chorus is just really terribly executed in contrast to the verses in my opinion.
Otherwise the song is pretty badass in usual Jack White fashion. Watched QoS last night, and the opening is terrible with them.
Felt like they tried too hard. I think it should have just been Keys singing. White already gets massive praise from me, at least for the instruments, especially the drums.
It still boggles my mind how the two of them, both insanely talented musicians in their own right, combine forces to make something that sounds so terrible.
I abso-fucking-lutely love Another Way to Die. Jack White and Alicia Keys was an off-beat pairing that worked very well. I felt like it fit very well with what the new Bond direction was.
Skyfall just took it back to the old days. I actually thought that the awkward vocal combination was a tongue in cheek nod to the fact that Bond is never really in sync with his female counterpart in this movie, since he is almost entirely focused on Vesper, still.
I will probably be negged to hell, but I personally always thought this opening was a disappointment following on from all the other great Bond openers.
A lot of this looks like cheap After Effects. Some of the animation and poor rotoscoping actually really annoys me. You can see as much in his Brosnan title sequences.
It was just a conscious decision to go the other way for Casino Royale. And I respect that. Just recently watched this movie again. And I forgot just how bloody awesome it is.
From the opening credits, to the beginning foot chase, all the way to Bond getting his nuts bashed in. It goes really well with the video.
I wonder how many of you guys just like Chris Cornell or Soundgarden in general? Not only is it in the right style epic, operatic, etc , but it sounds both modern and works as a throwback all at the same time.
Is it the best Bond song? Is it super Bondian? Not really, it has some traits in there but more importantly, the central leitmotif in the song evolves into the Bond theme during the ensuing score because composer David Arnold also had a hand in the song - a fairly rare thing in the franchise.
Cold, ruthless, charming as fuck while blowing your kneecaps off Quantum of Solace kind of short-changed that by showing his development is still continuing, but anyway.
The song and the score thus not only match the visuals, but mirror his character development perfectly, which I thought was honestly brilliant.
As such, while the song sticks out of the Bond canon, it makes perfect sense in the context of the film why it does so and I honestly find it catchy to begin with.
I do agree that Skyfall is leagues better though as both a song and as a Bond song. I like You Know My Name and Skyfall, both gave me massive chills when in the theatre, the perfect mixture of the music and visuals came together to create that familiar sense of "epic" that can sometimes make your eyes water.
Definitely not a fluke. It was exactly the big, Shirley Bassey type song that the franchise had been missing for a long time.
It also kind of showed me that Bond was re-establishing itself, going back to basics, as it were. I remember seeing Casino Royale in the cinema, and the theme song, after the incredible parkour cold open, was like a punch to the face.
Especially after some dodgey songs from Madonna and Garabage previously. The cold open is when Bond kills the two people in black and white to earn his OO status.
Although I do agree that the parkour sequence was incredible, best part of the film IMO. So there is a divide in the fanbase about which is a better song.
The opening visuals are also better in Casino Royale. Adele probably draws automatic hate from some in the male group.
I also thought I was in a parallel universe until I saw your comment. I agree with you though, Skyfall is the best Craig song. Best Bond song ever?
And the rest of the song is incredible. The Man With the Golden Gun theme is not incredible. Cornell was first reported to be writing and performing the song on July 20, by the Finnish newspaper Ilta-Sanomat.
It is only the fourth Bond theme after the opening medley of Dr. The soundtrack was completed early in the morning on October 11, Various names were reported in the media prior to the announcement, some reports going so far as to have the performers apparently claim they were working on the theme.
